Microsoft and OpenAI have restructured their long-standing partnership as OpenAI transitions into a Public Benefit Corporation (OpenAI Group PBC). Microsoft now owns about 27% of OpenAI, valued at $135B, with extended IP rights through 2032.
The new deal gives OpenAI more flexibility to co-develop products, release open models, and offer API access beyond Azure—while Microsoft remains deeply integrated through Azure infrastructure.
